The Caatinga Cachalote is a medium-sized ovenbird with a prominent crest and robust bill. It is endemic to the dry Caatinga biome of northeastern Brazil.

Dry Caatinga scrub, thorny woodland, and deciduous forests in northeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground or in lower tree branches. Listen for its loud, ringing calls. Its large size and prominent crest make it somewhat easier to spot.
When to spot
Year-round, but often more conspicuous during the dry season when foliage is less dense. Most active in mornings and late afternoons.
