Spotted
This is a rare hybrid between the exquisitely patterned Baikal Teal and the elegant Northern Pintail. It results in a unique mix of features from both parent species, making it a challenging and unusual sighting.
Where to spot
Extremely rare in the wild. Might occur where the migratory paths or wintering grounds of these species overlap in Eurasia, or more commonly observed in captive bird collections.
How to spot
Look for a duck with a pointed tail (from Northern Pintail) and some intricate facial patterns or a green speculum (from Baikal Teal), but with a less distinct pattern than a pure Baikal Teal and possibly a more slender neck than a pure Pintail. Requires very careful observation for mixed features.
When to spot
Potentially during migration seasons (fall/spring) in overlap zones, or year-round in captive settings. Wild sightings would be exceptional.

Hybrids between species from different genera (Sibirionetta and Anas) are particularly unusual in the wild and often suggest an escaped captive bird or a highly unusual wild pairing.
