Spotted
The Paramo Ground-Tyrant is a high-altitude specialist, found only in the unique paramo ecosystems of the northern Andes. It has a dull greyish-brown plumage with a hint of rufous on the underparts.
Where to spot
Paramo grasslands, bogs, and open areas at very high altitudes in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru.
How to spot
Scan the open, often boggy, paramo landscape. It blends in well but can be spotted moving on the ground or perching on low vegetation. Look for subtle rufous on the flanks.
When to spot
Year-round resident in its paramo habitat. Active during daylight hours.
This species is uniquely adapted to the cold, wet, and high-elevation paramo, where it forages among tussock grasses and frailejones.
