Endemic to the Naung Mung area in Kachin State, northern Myanmar, primarily found in dense, mossy montane evergreen forests at mid-elevations.

Listen for its unique, quiet, and repetitive calls. Look for subtle movements on the forest floor, often near fallen logs or dense bamboo. Its plain brown plumage provides excellent camouflage, so focus on sound and patience.

Resident year-round. Best observed during the dry season (October to April) when forest trails are more accessible, and typically in the early morning or late afternoon.
