Spotted
The Blackish Earthcreeper is a relatively dark-plumaged Furnariid found in the high Andes. It is a terrestrial species, well-adapted to the open, often bleak, puna environments.
Where to spot
Inhabits the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia, typically in puna grasslands and rocky slopes at high elevations.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground in open, high-altitude terrain. Its darker plumage is a key distinguishing feature. Listen for its vocalizations, which are often a series of trills or whistles.
When to spot
Active year-round. Observations are generally best during daylight hours in good weather.
Despite its common name, the 'blackish' refers more to its overall darker tone compared to other earthcreepers, often appearing dusky brown in the field.
